For just about everyone living in modern society computing is a fact of life. Today computers are used for a myriad of purposes and just about everyone owns a computer in some form. Although most people do not stop to think about how their computers work and what drives them forward the reality is that software is where most of the smarts are introduced in computing today. You can either purchase software or believe it or not you can even get free software and it is completely legal. Open-source software is the most visible aspect of free software. With open-source software the developer will allow you to use the software for free.

These projects are usually run by enthusiasts who want to put their programming skills to use on project that interest them. As such a lot of the free software you will find is of extremely high quality.
